Learning

LEARNING AND DEVELPOMENT

We explore all the areas of EYFS, uniquely integrated with a Progressive Jewish and multi-cultural education. We follow a play-based framework, the best way for children of this age to learn. All our activities are planned under three prime areas of learning: communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional development.

We also support children in four specific areas through which the prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are: literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, expressive arts and design.

The children work to attain the 'Early Learning Goals' by the time they finish their Reception Year. Each child has a baseline assessment carried out by their key person at the beginning of each year. We measure the children's progress each term with a summative assessment, the younger children have an EYFS progress check while they are two. Each child has an individual learning journey which they and their parents can share and contribute to. Our curriculum is designed to help the children to progress to the next year of our programme successfully, using a pedagogy which motivates the children to enjoy learning using language, new skills and sticky knowledge.  A portfolio of photos, significant moments and art work is started so we can all enjoy your child's journey.

Our approach is very creative, using art, craft, music, drama, language and literature. We plan our observational curriculum according to the needs and interests of each individual child. Our staffing ratios are high, all members of our staff are DBS checked amd we practice safer recruitment. We work with the children in a caring and nurturing way, encouraging them to become independent learners. We teach listening, negotiation and self-care skills. Development of the children's social skills, confidence and self-esteem are a priority, so they can fulfil their unique potential.
